When Childish Gambino released the song ‘This is America’ it went viral for the message.
For Nigerian star, Falz, it was an inspiration for him to express what Nigeria is like and so he did his refix of ‘This is America’ and created what will be relatable to Africans and gave us ‘This is Nigeria’.
When the song was released, it gained millions of views not only from Africa but across the world. This was including a reaction from American hip-hop musician and entrepreneur Diddy, who shared it on his Instagram page, giving the video worldwide recognition.
Falz’ song was termed controversial by many. And now the Nigerian censorship board has declared it vulgar and banned it.
A Nigerian radio station has been fined for broadcasting “vulgar lyrics” in Nigerian rapper Falz ‘This is Nigeria’ viral hit song. According to CNN, the Nigerian National Broadcasting Commision said in a letter to the radio station that the song is indecent and vulgar.
“I am not happy that the NBC is preventing the people from listening to such strong messages that need to be heard. I will not relent and that is why my next album is important. There is a lot going on that needs to be talked about, even though a lot of people may not want to hear the truth”
