Echesa spills the beans
Former sports CS Rashid Echesa has revealed behind the scenes intrigues that led to his sacking, linking it to Deputy President William Ruto.
In a candid interview with Nation, Echesa maintained that he was shown the door “because of my (Echesa) unflinching support for Deputy President William Ruto”.
The CS whose sacking was as controversial as his appointment said that his closeness with the DP irked many, making him a casualty of the 2022 succession politics.
“I am a victim of the 2022 succession politics. There are those who are uncomfortable with my closeness to (Dr) Ruto and they will do everything to separate us.” Echesa said.
“I am supporting Dr Ruto for 2022 because he got me out of ODM to support President Kenyatta in” he added.
Link to seven fraudsters and fake Sh 32 billion
Asked about his alleged links to seven men charged with fraud after impersonating the President to obtain Sh10 million from a businessman, Echesa denied knowing or ever meeting the suspects.
“I don’t know those people and I have never met them. I saw the screenshots circulating on social media, but they were fake.” He said.
He further distanced himself from the Sh32 billion fake money recovered from a residential house in Ruiru.
The former CS was quick to point out that allegations lavelled against him have to do with politics and his stand on supporting DP Ruto.
“I have no idea, but it’s all about politics. As I said, I am being victimised for supporting Ruto.” He said.
