Leaders eulogize Kofi Annan

Kenyan leaders joined the rest of the world in eulogizing former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan who died on Saturday while receiving treatment in Switzerland. Those who sent their condolence include Deputy President William Ruto, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, all acknowledging the important role Annan played in brokering peace in the country during the 2007/8 post election violence. Meanwhile in Ghana, President Nana Akufo-Addo on Saturday declared a week of mourning for the late former UN chief and Nobel laureate. In a statement, President Nana described Annan as an ardent believer in the capacity of the Ghanaian to chart his or her own course on to the path of progress and prosperity “The Government and people of Ghana, First Lady Rebecca and I are deeply saddened by the news of the death, in Berne, Switzerland, of one of our greatest compatriots, Mr. Kofi Annan,” read the statement.
